PhD in Social Policy/Social Work
I had finished a social policy degree and applied for a studentship linked to a project looking at ‘financial aid in social work’. I got the chance to tutor, learn about qualitative research and explore issues around how organisations work and poverty.
There was a sizeable number of people in the department completing masters or PhDs. It was good to be part of a larger group.
I moved away from academia into working for the third sector, working in advice services and moving onto training, organisational development and evaluation. I am currently depute director at Evaluation Support Scotland, which works with third sector organisations and funders to help them to measure and report on their impact.
