Timeline :: Approved Social Worker training begins

The Mental Health Act 1983 identified a clearer role for social workers in determining whether and how a person should be the subject of a compulsory admission to hospital. The Act required social workers to be trained for the role and a programme of mandatory post-qualifying training for Approved Social Worker status was introduced in 1985.
