Following publication of the Albemarle Report on the youth services in England and Wales in 1960, the Scottish Education Department invited Moray House College to institute the first course of professional training for youth workers. This was initially set up as a one year certificate course, beginning in 1961, led by Brian Ashley, and subsequently became a two year Diploma in Youth and Community work the following year.
