Timeline :: Pindown Report

Silhouette for no photo

This inquiry, which was set up in June 1990 and reported in 1991, chronicles the development between 1983 and 1989 in Staffordshire children’s homes of a method of controlling children known as ‘Pindown’. It was initiated by a qualified social worker and sustained over a number of years by untrained staff who thought that what they were doing was sanctioned by an ‘expert’. A full write-up of this is available online on the Therapeutic Care Journal.
