Stephen Lawrence was a black British man from Eltham, south-east London, who was murdered in a racially motivated attack while waiting for a bus on the evening of 22 April 1993. Two of his killers were finally found guity almost 20 years later. The inquiry had a profound impact on police and all public sector agencies in acknowledging the serious impact of 'institutional racism'.
