Tipping Points: What is it that effects the change from resistance to engagement in child protection proceedings? A qualitative study of 6 families involved in using a 'Signs of Safety' approach in an area of Edinburgh.

Aims

  • To investigate the views of families and social workers as to what are the tipping points that shift familiesí responses from non-compliance/resistance to social work intervention, to engagement around issues of child safety.

Methods

  • Qualitative interviews with six families from one area of Edinburgh who have been difficult to engage but who are currently engaged with social workers using a Signs of Safety approach.
  • Interviews with the social workers working with these families.
