Fife Council

A small scale qualitative pilot study to analyse the extent to which children’s views were gained in reporting to children’s hearings.

Aims

  • To establish what may hinder or help the process of gaining the views of families when preparing reports for children’s hearings where statutory home supervision is ongoing.
  • To establish to what extent their views are routinely sought.

Methods

  • Semi-structured interviews with six children aged 8-12 who have in the last twelve months been placed on home supervision.
  • Interviews with their parents and the allocated social worker.
  • The relevant files will be examined to establish if views were stated and the quality of the recording of views in reports to children’s hearings.

Personnel

  • Peter Stanford and Bernie O’Beirne, Fife Council.
  • Mentor: Prof Kay Tisdall, University of Edinburgh.
