This course is intended for social work practitioners who have some prior knowledge of the theory of emotional intelligence and/or those who have attended the introductory course offered by these two trainers.

The work of the day will continue to build and develop a theoretical awareness of the emerging knowledge base on emotional intelligence and will provide practical application opportunities for relating this to social work practice. A main focus of the day will be on the impact of emotional intelligence upon the process of decision making and also on assessing the authenticity in communication with resistant service users.

Course participants will be asked to undertake a short piece of preparation for the day and will be expected to work in an experiential and participative manner. The course will be appropriate for qualified social work practitioners, senior social workers and social work managers.

This course carries 7 hours of Continued Professional Development.

Stan Godek:   Qualified Social Worker and Freelance trainer.

Ruth Forbes: Qualified social worker and social work tutor at the University of Edinburgh. Qualified psychodynamic counsellor. Practice experience in children and families and adult psychiatry and as mental health officer,
