Nuffield Award - Children living with domestic violence – understanding the effects on children’s wellbeing using longitudinal data
Led by Dr Valeria Skafida, and involving Professor John Devaney and Dr Fiona Morrison, the Nuffield Foundation has funded a three year study to look at the impact of domestic abuse on children and young people.
This study will use longitudinal data to investigate patterns of exposure to different types of domestic abuse among different groups of mothers of young children and whether there are systematic patterns in the types of domestic abuse mothers are exposed to. The team will investigate how living with domestic abuse relates to children being victims of violence themselves, how exposure to domestic abuse affects children’s wellbeing, mental health and development, and children’s subsequent behaviours towards others. The research will also explore the relationships between children’s outcomes and maternal and paternal use of, and attitudes towards, public support services.
